Dr. Shuster joins Eye Physicians

Glaucoma Specialist Jerry N. Shuster, M.D., Joins Eye Physicians of Central Florida

Eye Physicians of Central Florida is pleased to announce that board-certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist Jerry N. Shuster, M.D., is joining the practice January 3, 2012. Dr. Shuster has served the Central Florida community as a glaucoma specialist for more than 27 years, originally in downtown Orlando and most recently in Volusia County.

One of the leading causes of blindness in the United States, glaucoma is a disease which destroys the optic nerve, resulting in vision loss. It is typically due to increased pressure in the eye caused by poor drainage of the fluid from the eye.  It is often called the sneak thief of sight because it usually produces no symptoms until its late stages. Dr. Shuster offers the latest in early glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, including automated optic nerve analysis and visual field testing, and performs laser and glaucoma surgery.

Prior to coming to Central Florida, Dr. Shuster served on the faculty at the University of Florida. He completed his fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and served his residency and internship at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.  Dr. Shuster earned his medical degree from the University of Florida. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Glaucoma Society. In addition, he currently serves on the voluntary faculty of the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.

“We are so happy Dr. Shuster chose to join our team,” said Eye Physicians of Central Florida’s Robert S. Gold, M.D.  “We have known, respected and referred patients to him for years. Not only is he an experienced leader and specialist in the field of glaucoma, he has served this community for most of his career and is absolutely beloved by his patients and fellow physicians alike.”

“Moving to Eye Physicians of Central Florida, I feel like I am coming home,” said Dr. Shuster. “I look forward to being a part of such an esteemed, well-rounded team that shares my philosophy of personalized patient care and also offers a full range of eye care – from routine to the most specialized -- under one roof.”
