December, 2007:
Eye Physicians of Central Florida's Robert S. Gold, M.D., F.A.A.P., Selected as Author in New Book, The Art and Science of Ophthalmology: Top Doctors on Establishing a Diagnosis, Building Patient relationships, and Integrating Technology into Medicine

ORLANDO, Fla. - Robert S. Gold, M.D., F.A.A.P., of Eye Physicians of Central Florida has been recognized nationally as a health care leader by being selected as an author in the recently released book, The Art and Science of Ophthalmology, published by Aspatore Books. The Art and Science of Ophthalmology, ISBN: 9781596228092, is an authoritative, insider's perspective on the various challenges in this field of medicine and the key qualities necessary to become a successful practitioner.

Featuring some of the nation's leading ophthalmologists, this book provides a candid look at the field of ophthalmology - academic, surgical, and clinical - and a glimpse into the future of a dynamic practice that requires an understanding of technology, an eye for detail, and excellent microsurgical skills. As they reveal the challenges of treating individuals of all age groups throughout their lifetimes, these authorities offer practical and adaptable strategies for excellence. From meeting and managing patient expectations to achieving a work-life balance, these doctors articulate the finer points of a profession that revolves around our reliance on sight. The different niches represented and the breadth of perspectives presented enable readers to get inside some of the great minds of today, as experts offer up their thoughts around the keys to mastering this fine craft - in which the science of optics, the biochemistry of vision, and the art of compassion intersect.

"I was honored to contribute to this book," said Dr. Gold.  "As a pediatric ophthalmologist, I believe in the importance and unique aspects of caring for children's vision and focused my writing in this area.  Success in ophthalmology is the reward of a patient who can see. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than working with children and having them come into the office after giving them glasses or straightening their crossed-eyes and seeing big smiles on their faces - and their parents' faces."

Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Gold specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult eye-movement disorders.  He earned his bachelor's degree, graduating cum laude, and his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, where he was a member of the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Gold completed an internship in internal medicine at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic in New Orleans and a residency in ophthalmology at Louisiana State University. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at James Hall Eye Foundation, Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, Atlanta.  Established in 1981, Robert S. Gold, M.D., F.A.A.P., David B. Auerbach, D.O., Louis C. Blumenfeld, M.D., F.A.A.P., Victor B. Thomas, M.D. and optometrist Larry S. Lewis, O.D. of Eye Physicians of Central Florida care for children and adults of all ages, providing routine examinations, glasses, contact lenses, ophthalmic evaluation, treatment and surgery.  They also specialize in pediatric ophthalmology, adult eye muscle disorders, cataract and laser surgery, neuro-ophthalmology, and oculoplastic, reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery.  The practice has offices in Winter Park, Longwood and MetroWest and accepts most major health insurance plans.
